Fluffy Butter Cream Icing

This is a pretty basic Butter Cream Icing recipe, but I thought I’d share it with everyone, as I like it very much…

Fluffy Butter Cream Icing


  • 1/2 cup hot tap water
  • 1 cup (rounded) shortening
  • 2 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. meringue powder
  • 1 tsp. each butter, almond, and clear vanilla flavorings (or to suit your taste)
  • a pinch of popcorn salt (white, not colored)


  1. Mix everything together very well, until smooth and creamy. Butter Cream icing can be made without meringue powder, but it helps with the stability and gives your icing more volume.
  2. Now your icing is ready to use! If you want to make roses, you’ll have to add some more powdered sugar and mix it in well. Or, if you think your icing is too stiff (like for making leaves, etc…) just add a little more water to your icing and mix well. Enjoy~

    Hmmmm…. Nutrition information? Well, I’m sure it’s not very good for you, as it uses sugar and shortening, but at a party, who really thinks about nutrition, right?

Hi.  Does the texture of this resemble that of Publix bakery or Costco?  Does it spread easily, and easy to pipe?  Sorry, Im kind of new and looking for a similar recipe :)
