Caramel frosting

This is my mom’s favorite caramel frosting recipe she passed to me a long time ago, and I love it it is so smooth and delicate flavor.

Caramel frosting


  • 2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup high ratio shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 to 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 8 tablespoons heavy cream


  1. Blend all ingredients at medium speed until combined, DO NOT OVER MIX.

Made this according to the recipe and it was horribly grainy. So bad I had to throw it out could not use it on my cake.


Hi!! and I am sorry I didn't respond before but I didn't see your ??? on time. Yes you have to melt the sugar and butter together I am sorry I didn't mention it I don't know why didn't type the recipe right. I am really sorry, girls. But any way melt the sugar and butter and let it cool and then mix all the ingredients.
