Sugar Cookie Icing

The holidays has left my ingredients sparse at best. I had made the cookies with intentions of decorating them with something but when it came around to it, I was out of Karo and shy on meringue powder and out of oomph. This is remarkably easy and they turned out just as I had hoped…shiney, stackable but bitable. It tastes something like candy corn(I’m sure that could be changed with a simple flavoring adjustment.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (no need to sift unless you need something to occupy a shakey hand)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk(2 tblsp will make it about the consistency of between corn syrup and pancake syrup)

  • 1 Tablespoon glucose

  • 1 Teaspoon meringue powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring

  • 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
  • gel color(shade desired)

Instructions

  1. Add all but the coloring to a small bowl. Using a spatula, stir vigorously scraping bowl sides(small rubber/silicone spatula works great for removing all ingredients of sides of bowl). Add color. Mix using a ‘figure 8′ motion. Works best if you cover it for 30 minutes or so then restir using the ‘figure 8′ motion to release any built up air bubbles.
