Alice's Pound Cake

My mom Alice used to make this cake for all of our family functions. I make it now for birthdays and it is famous with everyone. It is delicious even without icing (tastes great with buttercream too)

Alice’s Pound Cake


  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • recommended to have butter, eggs and milk at room temp. but works well either way


  1. Cream sugar, butter, crisco and vanilla together. Add eggs one at a time. Add flour and milk in thirds alternatively.
  2. Pour cake batter into prepared cake pan. DO NOT preheat oven. cook at 325 degrees for approx. 90 min.
