Nutella Buttercream

My fiancé loves Nutella and has been asking me to come up with a Nutella cake or cupcake combo so I decided to try a Nutella Buttercream and after just one cupcake he was hooked and says this is his favorite. My cupcake combo was Devilsâ Food cupcake, Nutella Mousse filling and Nutella Buttercream.

Nutella Buttercream

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened
  • 4 cups confectionersâ sugar (16 oz box)
  • 5 Tbls. of milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of Nutella (softened)

Instructions

  1. Place butter in a large mixing bowl; add 2 cups of confectionerâs sugar, 3 tbls. milk, and vanilla. On medium speed, beat until mixture is smooth. Add remaining 2 cups of confectionerâs sugar, and remaining 2 tbls. of milk, beating until frosting is of a good spreading consistency. Fold in Nutella to buttercream until there are no streaks (you can beat with mixer, but be careful not to over beat or it will become grainy).

Oh boy, I stopped counting the calories after the whole box of sugar was poured in.

Thanks... just tried it and I think the family will love it. My boys all love Nutella! Please could you post the recipe for the Nutella Mousse Filling? I tried a recipe that I found on line elsewhere and it didn't turn out so good. It was way too runny. I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much

I was curious how well this icing crusted once it was used? Since the recipe does not have meringue powder in it I was curious?

AMAZING! I frosted chocolate cupcakes with this and topped them with toasted hazelnuts. I love Nutella, so I increased the 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
