Nut Torte

This is a delicious alternative to pecan pie!

Nut Torte

Ingredients

  • For pastry:
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3 T. sugar
  • 1/8 t. salt
  • 1/8 t. nutmeg
  • 1/8 t. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 1 beaten egg
  • For filling:

  • 1 cup light Karo
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 T. melted butter
  • 1 T. flour
  • 1/8 t. salt
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 3 1/2 ounce jar macadamia nuts
  • 2/3 cup pecans.

Instructions

  1. For pastry: In a mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, and spices. Using a pastry blender (or food processor), cut in cold butter till pieces are the size of small peas. Add the beaten egg and toss to moisten. Form into a ball. Pat dough onto the bottom and 1 1/2 inches up the side of a greased 9 inch spring form pan. Don’t prick with fork.
  2. For filling: Combine first 7 filling ingredients. Stir in macadamia nuts and pecans. Pour into crust.
  3. Place spring form pan in a shallow baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45-50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Loosen side of pan and continue to cool. Refrigerate.
