Several people have asked me for this recipe. This is the most popular frosting in my bakery. It is fluffy, satiny, and DELICIOUS!! It has the great taste and scent of vanilla-it's great to decorate with too! I hope you like it. IT DOES NOT CRUST THOUGH!!
Gabe?s Satin Vanilla bean Buttercream Frosting
6 cups of confectioners? sugar ½ tsp. salt 1½ tsp. vanilla ?crush? (vanilla that contains the vanilla bean, I use Sonoma Syrup Co.-but there are several different types out there-this makes a WORLD of difference!!) or regular real vanilla extract will work 1 cup boiling water (¾ cup on hot days-or if you want a stiffer frosting) 2¾ cup shortening 1½ sticks slightly chilled butter, cut into 1-inch pieces
In the bowl of an electric stand mixer stir together:
Vanilla ?crush? or vanilla extract
With a whisk attachment, add and whip at low speed:
Whip until smooth and cool (be patient-takes awhile)
After cooling, add and whip until completely smooth (on low):
Slightly chilled butter, cut into 1-inch pieces
Increase the speed to medium-high. Whip until light, fluffy, and doubled in volume (10-20 minutes.)
