I got this recipe a year ago from a co-worker. It is absolutely positively the best pound cake I have ever eaten. I’ve even had clients tell me that their mothers (who have baked for years) say this is the best pound cake they’ve eaten. It makes great wedding cake layers, too.
Best Pound cake Ever
3 stick butter (no margarine)
3 C sugar
3 C cake flour
1 eight ounce package cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp lemon
*** you may also substitute almond or orange extract for the lemon****
Also try adding 1/4 cup poopy seeds. Absolutely Delicoius!!!
Cream butter and cream cheese for 3 minutes on med-high. Stop, scrape bowl and cream for additional 60 seconds. With mixer on medium, add sugar in steady stream at side of bowl. Add eggs, one at a time, continuing to keep the mixer running. Stop mixer, scrape bowl. Turn mixer back on and add flour. Add extracxt and mix for 1-2 minutes more.
Prepare a 10 inch tube pan and pour batter into pan. PLACE IN A COLD OVEN!! Turn oven to 300 degrees F and cook for 1 hour 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
