French Silk Pie

OK–not exactly a cake, but this is a huge hit with everyone who has tried it. Guys love it! Their wives hate me for it! Very easy, but a little time consuming to babysit the mixer. Definately worth the effort though!

French Silk Pie

Ingredients

  • 4 oz. Baker’s chocolate
  • 2 sticks BUTTER, not marg
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • Oreo pie crust

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and stir until smooth. Set aside until room temp, but still melted. Bring butter to room temp to soften. Beat with sugar until pale yellow and very fluffy. Add chocolate and vanilla. Add eggs–one at a time–beating for 5 minutes after each. Very important step! Don’t try to skimp on time–you will regret it later! Pour into pie crust and chill until set–about 4-5 hours. Garnish with whipped topping when set. Top with lots of chocolate curls for extra raves!
  2. I often double this and make the crust in a 9×13 pan.

    Butter–dairy group
    Eggs–meat group
Chocolate comes from a plant, right–fruit and veggie group!
Oreos have flour in them–grain and cereal group
See? It’s a very balance dish!

I have been looking for a recipe to equal the French silk pie from Baker's Square for years. I made this for Christmas, and topped with stabilized whipped cream and chocolate curls, this blows Baker's Square out of the water. I did, after tasting during mixing, add an additional 1/4 cup of sugar (for 3/4 cup total) to the pie, because it was not quite sweet enough for me. OH SO DELICIOUS!!
