I have used this recipe for many years. It’s extremely easy and tastes wonderful. It will fill a 9×13 pan and 1 – 6 inch round pan. It’s great with or without frosting and is great for making sculptured cakes.

Super Easy Chocolate Cake

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 Tbsp. cocoa, sifted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup boiling water

    Pre-heat oven to 325F.

  1. Beat butter, sugar, and cocoa until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Add flour and buttermilk alternately, beginning and ending with flour; blend well. Add boiling water; mix slowly until just combined. BATTER WILL BE THIN, DO NOT ADD FLOUR. Pour into prepared pans and bake for 45 minutes.
