Red Velvet Cake Pops

Here’s a fun and easy how-to on making cake pops. Cake pops are a growing trend amongst people who love to bake, and it’s a great way to use all your leftovers! They’re fun to share with all of your friends and family, or to keep them all for yourself if you just can’t give them up!

Ingredients

  • # One baked and cooled 13×9 red velvet cake
  • 2 cups of your choice of buttercream (cream cheese is a classic with red velvet!)
  • A large bowl
  • A cookie sheet
  • Lollipop sticks (if desired)
  • Candy Melts
  • A double boiler (or make your own)
  • Waxed Paper

Instructions

  1. Step One
First, you need a batch of your favorite red velvet cake recipe, cooled and ready to eat, and batch of your favorite buttercream icing.

Step Two
Once your cake is baked and completely cooled, crumble it into a large bowl.

Step Three
Mix the batch of icing that you have into the bowl of crumbled cake mix with your hands until combined.

Step Four
Roll your mixture into small balls about the size of a quarter.Gently insert a lollipop stick through the top of the cake ball so that it reaches about half way into the center, and make sure that you don’t push it through any further.

Step Five
Chill in the fridge for 4-5 hours OR in the freezer for approximately 1-2 hours.

Step Six
Melt Candy Melts according to the package. Take the cake balls and dip into the melted candy melts using the lollipop stick. Stick into a Styrofoam block until they harden.

Step Seven
This is the hard part. Eat them! Eat as many as you want, share them with your friends and family (if you dare) and enjoy!

Step Eight
You can top them off with anything you see fit. Sprinkles, candies and drizzles look great and are a simple way to dress up your cake pops.
