Marshmallow Fondant



  • 16 oz mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 lbs powdered sugar
  • shortening (own judgement)


  1. Add marshmallows and water together in microwavable bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals and stir each time. Microwave until melted. Grease hands and table surface very well with shortening. Pour about half of powdered sugar onto table surface and make a pit. Pour melted marshmallows into sugar put. Knead sugar and marshmallows together. Add sugar a little at a time. All 2 pounds of sugar may not be needed. Do not let fondant get too dry by adding too much sugar. Store double wrapped and in a zipped bag.

I made this , the taste is good but it does not get hard at all what do i do? i did put a little gum paste in a small amount to see if i can use it for making baby booties which iam about do pratice now


I made this too for a baby booties project , I add one cup of conf. sugar and knead it on the counter and let it sit for 5 min. used it 50/50 w/ gumpaste for the project. Good luck


I use a recipe similar to this. It calls for whatever extract you want and I think 1/4 cup of butter. I don't use the butter though. I forgot to add it the first time I made it but it turned out lovely and so now I don't use the butter at all. I don't think it needs it. I also microwave the marshmallows, add the water and my extract, and then dump it in my Kitchen Aid stand mixer and add the powered sugar in a cup at a time. It does get a little hard for the mixer to mix at the end so I either add a drop of water or take it out and knead it with my hands on a greased mat. I wrap it tight in plastic wrap, put it in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge overnight. It takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to get to room temperature. Don't take it all out of the bag at once. Just take whatever amount you need out of the bag. I also use cooking spray to spray my mat and rolling pin. So much easier than spreading Crisco around. Turns out beautiful every time!


One of my favorite fondant recipes! Down south we leave out the water due to the humidity and I haven't had any problems with it.


When I make marshmellow fondant it is unpredicatable. Sometimes it is too soft and sometimes it is rock hard. It's hard to know exactly how much powered sugar you need. Any ideas?


I find my Marshmallow Fondant alwasy goes way too sticky and then i can roll out to the size i need....any idea how to stop this, also how do u add peices
