This does sound like a good idea, but the cake recipe is incomplete.
How much milk? How many eggs?

Topping: 3 -4 Tablespoons butter cold cut into chunks 1/2 Cup packed brown sugar 1/2 Teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 Medium apples, peeled, cut into ½-inch wedges Cake: 1 1/2 Cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour 1 Teaspoon baking powder ½ tsp cinnamon ½ tsp salt 1/3 cup soft butter 1 egg ½ Cup milk Heat oven to 350°F. Place 1/2 cup brown sugar in small bowl; cut in 3 tablespoons butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press onto bottom of greased 9-inch round cake pan. Arrange apple slices on top. Set aside.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Set aside.
Combine 2/3 cup brown sugar and 1/3 cup butter in another medium bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg and vanilla; continue beating until smooth. Add flour mixture alternately with milk until well mixed.
Spoon batter over apple layer; spread evenly. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; invert onto serving plate. Serve warm or cool.
sounds like a great recipe for a Halloween party. (reminds me of my favorite strarbucks drink-caramel apple spice).
So, is the top one totally wrong? The first one says cook the butter and brown sugar and the updated one says cut into, or would it matter... A few other discrepancies just trying to clarify.
If you read the whole recipe, you would see that although the ingredients for the cake were incomplete, when reading the method, the eggs, etc. were included.
Ok, this recipe sounds delicious to me and I am trying to make it..however the ingreident amounts in the two recipes are not the same at all..and how it is put together. I already used the brown sugar and butter from the 1st one and melted the butter and mixed the brown sugar in..then put it in the pan...now I am reading to mix the butter in and make it crumbly and press in. The ingredients listing does not show any sugar at all for the cake and the first instructions say 1 cup granulated sugar and the 2nd instructions say 2/3 cup brown sugar. Please help me. I really want to make this cake.
This recipe sound good but needs to be post it again, correctly. It's too confusing.
First one says 325 deg. Second one says 350?? In the first it says 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/3 cup butter, eggs-plural, and vanilla. The addendum says 2/3 cup BROWN sugar (in directions only - not in ingredient list), 1/2 cup butter, ONE egg and no vanilla listed. HELP!!
I would use my own cake recipe, I did this but I used canNed peaches, and added the peach juice to the cake batter ..... it was FABULOUS
