I just started making my own marshmallow fondant using one of the recipes I found on CC While buying mini-marshmallows I saw the multicolored minis and thought that would create a tan base color for my darker browns and blacks. Well it worked! It made almost a light flesh color, very exciting. So then I took it a step further and separated the mini-marshmallows into pink and orange, and yellow and green. I got a great pink fondant which is a great base to create true reds, and the yellow and green marshmallows made a nice light green fondant. The light green fondant will be a great starting point for those brighter teals and darker green colors. I hope this helps someone else, I’ve very excited about it, I’m sure it’s written somewhere on this site(since so far I have found everything I could ever need here) but anyhow, sorry if I stepped on anyones toes for discovering this after them, but it’s all good, and fun! Have a great day and message me if you have any questions.
I used Walmart store brand multi-colored mini-marshmallows. I say the flavor on all 3 colors is about the same, slightly fruity. I asked my family to test the flavor and tell me what they thought it tasted like; I had someone else say it tastes kinda like Juicy Fruit gum, and someone else said Fruit Loops. I suggest making a small batch and judging for yourself. I must say I think it’s very tasty
Last night I made a batch with strawberry heart marshmallows(available mainly during Valentine’s day so stock up), and it came out excellent. The flavor was great and it had a beautiful light pink color.
- Marshmallow Fondant
- 4c. mini-marshmallows
- 4c. powdered sugar
- 2-4T water
Microwave the mini-marshmallows with 2T water 30 seconds at a time till melted.
Add 3c. powdered sugar to melted marshmallows stir in
Add last cup of sugar, stir and then turn out onto a crisco greased surface, make sure your hands are well greased too and knead until it is smooth and shiney.
If it gets sticky grease your hands again and keep kneading, if it seems too dry or hard add another tablespoon of water.
With this recipe I have cut it in half for smaller batches, and have multiplied it, it seems to work great and looks good on a cake. Check out my pics and you’ll get a chance to see, I’m new at this and have recently discovered fondant and it’s wonderfulness
thanks for the info! I may give it a try this weekend.:-)
thanks for the tip.. would of never thought to use colored mm... thanks
Great idea....can't wait to try.
ok, I tried this with white MM and loved the recipe! It was great. I'm new to the cake world and have only used store boughten fondant and this was so much easier! Easy to make, to roll and use!! Thanks so much for this recipe!
I'm glad you liked it. I forgot to post that when the multi-colored marshmallows are all mixed together the color is perfect for a light skinned body. And sometimes the colored marshmallows seem to have more oil in them so you might need to add more powdered sugar, use your own judgment and have fun!
Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try it this weekend. I may need help due to the fact that this will be the first time I have made this. So, I hope you were serious when you said I could ask questions. I may be talking with you soon.
How much Crisco should I use?
Do you use Wilton Icing color on marshmalow fondant? Thanks. Patricia
I made my own MMF and it turned out great! Better tasting than that already made stuff..my wilton cake instructor actually shared this with me and you can flavor this with candy oils. I haven't tried that yet..I will post again once I have.
Patricia-I used the wilton coloring in my MMF and it worked well
How big of a cake will this recipe cover?
thanks a bunch! i have been wondering if I could use the pink strawberry marshmallows to make straw. fondant. guess so!
I made the marshmellow fondant once before and it turned out great. Today I had a hard time with it sticking to the mat. I use the dusting pouch, but it kept sticking. Any thoughts?
Use cornstarch for the sticking problem!! Also, how does the mixed colored fondant taste? Can you disguise the fruity flavor with the candy oil????
So im in the middle of a cake now and need to help to make the fondant.... i have green pink and white marshmellows and i want to make the fondant pink. Do i just use the pink ones or what im really confused!!!!!?????
Sorry.... please reply ASAP thankyou
This is soooooo awesome.. I will NEVER EVER EVER buy fondant again!!! TY TY TY
Thanks so much for sharing your great find!!
I added color to the marshmollows as they melted, worked well.
How do you store this? And how long will it last? Sorry if they're dumb questions but I've only ever used bought stuff before 8-/
oh mY!!! i tried again this afternoon and i got better result! it doesnt look that perfect though but its an accomplishment for me!!!im so proud of myself! thank you so much!
Ok i made this today and this is my first attempt with making my own fondant. it smells great but it's a sticky mess. HELP!! PLEASE!! what did i do wrong or how can i fix it?
How do you get to see your pics?, im new to CC and i will really want to see how the fondant looks !!!!!!!!
Just another thought-the caramel stipped marshmallows, mostly available during the fall, but I can still find them here and there, make a really good tasting caramel fondant, also nice if you want flesh color! Goes very well on chocolate cake!
