How to turn white box cake into a home made chocolate cake
This recipe was born at the last min. I was short 1 box of chocolate cake mix. and plus 1 box of white. (I sent my husband to the store… don’t ask me why)
But anyway I decided to work with what I had I was on a deadline. It came out wonderful the client(a self-proclaimed chocoholic) ordered another one for her office!
I am posting this because I know this either has or will happen to my cake mix doctoring cc sisters!
Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions :)

INGREDIENTS

1 bx white cake mix
1 cup of sugar
1 half teaspoon of baking powder
1 cup of flour
1 half cup of cocoa powder- (1 cup if you want a stronger chocolate taste)
1 1/2 cups of water (if 1 cup cocoa powder add 1/4 cup of water or milk)
1 tablespoon of butavan -or butter flavor
1/3 cup of oil
3 eggs
1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1 pk cream cheese or sour cream
1/2 cup of chocolate chips -(1 cup if you want a stronger chocolate taste)

DIRECTIONS

How to turn white box cake into a home made chocolate cake

you will need:

1 bx white cake mix
1 cup of sugar
1 half teaspoon of baking powder
1 cup of flour
1 half cup of cocoa powder- (1 cup if you want a stronger chocolate taste)

dump all the dry ingredients in a big bowl and mix for about 30 seconds. Add the wet ingredients one at a time mixing after each

1 1/2 cups of water (if 1 cup cocoa powder add 1/4 cup of water or milk)
1 tablespoon of butavan or butter flavor
1/3 cup of oil
3 eggs

1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1 pk cream cheese or sour cream

*if it seems too thick add water a little at a time until it looks right

and lastly….
1/2 cup of chocolate chips -(1 cup if you want a stronger chocolate taste)

after everything else is all blended dump in the chips and fold them in with a knife.
DO NOT USE THE MIXER AFTER YOU ADD THE CHIPS it will crumble them up.

bake at 350 for about 35 mins or so depending on your oven. Checking often, it is done when the stick comes out clean

Great idea! What is the measurement of the cream cheese/sour cream? (pk can vary). Thanks!

This sounds wonderful. Have already printed the recipe off to use. However, need to know if it's a layer cake or sheet cake.

Thanks! the cream cheese is an 8 oz pk and I have used it for both a sheet cake and a layer cake. Butavan is a kind of caramel butter flavor its very good. you can find it at your local cake stores or on GlobalSugarArt.com

I am glad you like it. let me know if you have any more questions :P

I was so excited over the cake recipe, I forgot to ask if there is a specific frosting you use for it...

MrsSoul - Thank you for sharing this "yummy" choc cake recipe! I will make it this weekend - can't wait. Sounds like it is very most. I did make a choc cake w/choc chips added and it was very good, but this one sounds like "da bomb", looking forward to trying it out

I made this cake for my work and everyone raved about it. It was the most moist cake I have ever eaten. I made 4 layers so I alternated the layers, one with choc chips & one without and it turned out AWESOME! I will continue to use this for my birthday cakes when someone requests chocolate. Thanks for this information.

Hi! I am new to making cakes and I am having a hard time coming up with yummy fillings for the cakes I'm making...... I was just wondering if you had any ideas for this chocolate cake? I can't wait to try this recipe tomorrow!!! Thanks!!!

it souds delicious. i've been using the ready to make cake batter, and decorating it for family events. but i find that the cake sometimes isn't sturdy even for the fondant, and the layering i do. what do you suggest i add to cake batter to make it sturdy without losing the moisture of the cake?

This sounds very good....but need to know if it's dense enough to hold up to fondant and maybe carve? Thanks~
