This cake is very moist.

Chocolate Spice Cake


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 pinch ground cloves
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate


1 In a large bowl, cream together the butter or margarine and sugar. Add the eggs, beating well after each addition.

2 In another bowl, sift together the flour and spices. Blend these dry ingredients into the sugar mixture.

3 Dissolve the soda in the sour milk, and add to the batter.

4 Grate the chocolate, and add to the batter.

5 Pour batter into a greased and floured 8 inch round pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 minutes, or until done.
