You can cut or draw and cut any design on the Cricut cartridges without the use of SCAL. The Tink she was using was on the Tinkerbell cartridge and does not need a computer or SCAL or Design Studio to cut or draw it. |

Also for those who don't know....
If you are not already registered with HSN online, you receive a 15% off coupon when you sign up (in email next day) it is good up to $50 off.
I bought the expression bundle for only $299.95 and split the payments into four. My first payment was only $91 ($16 S&H included) and the next three are $75 every thirty days.
So if you are going to buy the small one for the sell price of $99 with no extras, you might as well spend a little less for the first payment and get the big one. Then you have a month to save for the next payment.
It is for New online customers |

I bought the DVD and it is very interesting. I am not sure however, that I am willing to "modify" my Cricut Expression to cut gumpaste. Also keep in mind that doing what she suggests in the DVD will void any warranty you might have from ProvoCraft. |

Yes you are right cakes_are_fun but hopefully nothing will go wrong and probably after a year the warranty would have run out. Not sure how long it is for. I have had mine a few months now, and as I see it, if we don't take the initiative to have a go just because it is not covered we would all get left behind. Just have my fingers crossed. I use mine for both and totally enjoying it. |

I am waiting on mine to come in.
What are you having to modify exactly? I know someone posted something about the bands that pull it through or something but she said she didn't cut them she just slid them over so they could always be put back in place. |

The only modification would be using the deep cut blade and housing (which it is meant to use) and possbily taking the sticky off of the mat (which are a product you have to keep replacing as it is used anyways) Not sure why you think you have to "modify" the machine?? |

The DVD talked about cutting off the rubber rolling bands.
I just want everyone to be aware that if they go out and buy a new machine to try this they might want to consider the warranty. I have had mine well over 2 years so I know I am not covered but replacing it is SO not in the budget right now.
I am buying a used "first edition" Cricut to give this a go so I won't be out $300+ if I mess it up. I have the deep cut blade on order along with the markers.
With the newest version of the Cricut the Cricut Create (a blend the original and the Expression) being the new HOT thing and the original selling with a cartridge for $99 at local craft stores (it was $189) there are less expensive ways to play with this idea w/o messing up my Expression. |

Does the deep cut blade come with the machine or do I need to buy separately? Is there anything else that has to be purchased separately? (besides cartridges)
I just want to make sure I have everything when it gets here, it shipped already...yeah |

The deep cut blade is separate.
I would buy extra mats as you have to let the gumpaste dry for a bit before using it. |

WOW!!! Thanks to all the CCers on this thread. I've had the cricut for a year and a half and LOVE it. The fact that I can now use it for cakes, leaves me so pumped up on adrenalin it's ridiculous!!
Now I've just got to get that Deep Blade and I'm set. THANKS A MILLION!! |

I just got my Cricut. I got the personal at AC Moore with their sale and my $10 rewards certificate. Felt like Christmas! Ended up being around $94 with tax.
Now I have this machine sitting in a box and I keep thinking about all the other stuff I need to get...
Deep Cut Blade with housing
SCAL
Creative Designs DVD
Or... can I just get away with the blade and the software and do trial and error? Did you figure it out without Linda's DVD?
Do I need anything else?
I know some have tried fondant with tylose and some have tried gum paste. What is your preference? I like the fondant with tylose idea as I think it will taste better. |
