i demonstrated the ribbon roses for our cake club a few months back. great idea for bridal showers..got design from a cake book, don't remember which one
Don't know if this is where you got it but what looks like the same design is in a book called "Party Cakes" by Carol Deacon (pg 64). I think yours is prettier though. :) :)
very easy. bake double layer square cake. cut two of the corners (on the end where stems will go). carve cake a little on same side so that it slopes down a little.
make gumpaste stems a day or so ahead of time. cover cake with white fondnat (I guess buttercream would work too). make your ribbon roses, leaves and *irisis*, arrange on cake. then you can add cellophane on back of it (Use a smaller board than i did) to make it look more like a bouquet.
To make irises: roll a small sausage about 1/2" long, fold in half without ends meeting, flatten the two open ends into petals then pipe yellow center..hope that makes sense. insert stems on bottom of cake (where you trimmed the corners). wrap ribbon around stems. of course do this before you add cellophane :-)
I love that idea... my neice is getting married in November and the bridal shower is next month ...will you email me directions for this ...please!?! She will love this so much! [email protected]
