Gift Box Cake

Gift Box Cake on Cake Central

This was just for practice. I'd seen a few of these on CC and wanted to try one. Thanks to all who posted one of these cakes for the inspiration. I wasn't happy with the bow but made it in a big hurry. Overall I thought it turned out pretty well, and it was just for fun anyway.

Thanks. The lid was difficult. It was one layer of a 4-layer cake (the other 3 layers making up the box). I covered the bottom with icing and then fondant and then flipped it over and covered the top and sides with icing and fondant. When I laid it on the cake, it looked too warped, so I took it back off and put a cake board underneath it so it would look more stiff. The cake was surprisingly heavy too, and the weight started to wrinkle the fondant on the box, which was very straight to begin with.

Came out great. I just did a hat box cake with flowers coming out of it and I agree, the lids are a bit difficult.

This is really, really gorgeous! And I think your bow is beautiful, too--it looks more "real" if every single loop isn't exactly perfect. NICE WORK!
