Joan's Birthday

This was made for my MIL's birthday. Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and covered in white chocolate with gumpaste roses. The cake was made in the middle of winter (in the middle of the night) and the white chocolate set so fast that I couldn't get it smooth - in the end I just went with the slightly rustic look.

The secret to the roses is Platinum Paste - mail order from the UK - amazing stuff - doesn't stick, remains pliable while drying and you won't believe how thin you can roll it. It's not cheap but really worth the dollars if you are doing something special.
