-: My Mums Surprise Birthday Cake :-
My mum is born the 24th of december and in the states I guess that wouldn't create much problems. But here in Sweden we actually cellebrate X-mas the 24th, so my mother hasn't gotten a propper birthday cake since she was a small girl. So, I just had to make her a cake as a surprise. Sponge cake with hazelnut and chocolatemousse. Covered in SP and flowers and leaves the same. It's as many roses and calla lilies as years she turned, but if you want exact numbers you'd have to ask her.
-December 2005-
This cake is truly beautiful, I love the SP basketweave, I'd like to know how to do that. I have never seen it done like that before.
tyty: Well to be honest I didn't really know how to make it any other way without a patterned rolling pin which I don't have. So I've measured the length and width with a ruler and then cutted with knife. Then I've plaited the strips like that and placed around the cake. If I'd do it again I would definitely cover the whole cake first and then add the plait around, so the cream wouldn't escape from the small gaps in the plait. But you learn from your misstakes...and this misstake was YUMMY!!!
Looks great, I've only seen it done with the rolling pin.
Wow! That will certainly make her day special! Beautiful flowers!
