I was asked to make a cake that looked like a ham salad sandwich! I *had* to ask why - and was told that his dad (the birthday boy) loves sandwiches and it's now a bit of an 'in joke' with his family, which is why they got him a sandwich cake!
The cake is an 8" squar that I trimmed to shap. I then cut it in two horizontally - which were then the two slices of bread. I cut each 'slice' across so that I could fill it with jam/buttercream. I coloured some sugarpaste an off-white (a sort of very, very pale creamy, yellowy colour - but only slightly coloured it) The crusts were painted with a mixture of chestnut and brown colouring pastes, which I watered right down.
