These cakes were for a birthday/retirement party for my daughter-in-law's mother.

Yes, I use cookies a lot. Cookies is what started my business. People kept begging me to make cakes, but, I haven't learned how to do flowers, so, I use other techniques.

I love your idea! Do you just use buttercream to adhere the cookies?

I use buttercream right after I smooth the cake. If the icing crusts over too much, the cookies don't stick as well.

I used a piece of lace and spread royal icing over the top to get the pattern. I didn't like the stark contrast of the one front of the photo, so, I used the same technique, but, over the same color icing on the one back of photo.
