This is not really a shower cake, but wasn't sure where to put it...my first time making my own icing and using the impression mat. A bit of bulge in the middle(i made the icing dam, but i didn't let the cake settle before icing) but it was a good learning experience:) i made several diff borders just to try...lots of fun! suggestions welcome...1 month till my sis's wedding!!

I like the pearl boarder, Impressions look nice. Did you make the pearls? Maybe I'll get around to using my mats one day LOL. What was your technique? :D

The pearl border was my fav too...That was also my first attempt at fondant pearls, i used a silcone bead maker for those. The mat was not too hard to use, just need to work on lining up the diamonds...i tried wrapping it around slightly and also holding the mat straight while turning the cake into it...both ways work about the same. i used the "viva" technique(for the first time) which i really liked also. Man, thats a lot of firsts!!

It is a very pretty cake. A trick I have learned for avoided the dreaded bulge is to make a dam, add filling and top cake layer, then pipe icing with a #10 or #12 plain piping tip to fill in the spcae between the layers. Smooth the line with a spatula and ice as usual.
