Baby Einstein Party

Baby Einstein Party on Cake Central

This was for my sons 1st birthday. The large caterpillar was made using the Wilton sports ball and frosted w/ bc icing using 18 star tip. The antennae are Tootsie Pop suckers and fondant was used for eyes, cheeks, and smile. The smaller caterpillar used for the smash cake was made w/ the Wilton mini ball pan. Cupcakes are frosted w/ bc using 1M tip and have musical note pics from Country Kitchen.

How many cake mixes did this take? Did you use one ball per segment for the caterpillar? I would love to talk with you on how to recreate a similar piece for my son's first birthday

I used the following Wilton colors: Red (No Taste), Violet, Lemon Yellow, Teal, & Royal Blue. I made the icing on a Thurs. I used almost a whole bottle of the No Taste Red and it still looked pinkish. I started decorating on a Friday evening and finished on Sat morning. By the time the party started in the evening, all of the colors had really brighted up from what they appeared from the fridge at the beginning - especially the red. I think it took about 6 hours to complete all the decorating.

I only used a single star tip which is really slow. I bought the triple star tip (2010 i think), but never got the hang of lining the stars right, so I didn't use it. I wish I would have spent more time learning to work with it, because I think it would have paid off. Good luck w/ your son's first birthday :)

I used a total of 5 cake mixes to make the main cake and the smash cake. Each box made one large ball and one small ball segments. Hope this helps.

Thanks wow that is alot of cake mixes. Did you use a particular brand of icing colors to get such vibrant colors I did a trial run last week for my son's upcoming first birthday and my colors did not look near as vibrant. Also how long did it take to decorate the large cake? Sorry for all the questions but this is my first birthday party for my son and I am so excited that I want everything to be perfect.

One more question how much icing did it take to decorate both cakes. His party is in two weeks and I have only did a practice run with the smash cake. Thanks so much for all your help.
