Flute And Music
All buttercream. Chocolate frosting is from the chocolate syrup frosting recipe. YUM! The template for the sides reminded me of a music stand. Boy, did this cake bring back memories of long, long ago, transposing music in college (yes, I was a music major). Yeah, I know, the flute is crooked, but you can't tell so much when looking straight at it. The music is "excerpts" for Pachelbel's Canon - my absolute favorite piece - written for the flute.
this is wonderful and it looks so yummy. What a great job! What flavor was the cake?
this cake is amazing! great job!!
This is really beautiful. Congrats on a great job!
The sheet music looks amazing, so straight. My hands would have been shaking. Beautiful cake! Now I am definitely craving some chocolate!
Sorry, the cake was a marble cake with the chocolate syrup frosting filling - and some mini-chocolate chips sprinkled over the filling. The whole thing was covered in the chocolate frosting with a thin coat of white buttercream on top so I could make the whole "page of music" thing work.
That sounds so great. Does that frosting crust? It doesn't look like it from the picture but it is also so very smooth. Great job I'm going to try that syrup frosting!!! :)
Wow fantastic
well, I wouldn't say that frosting exactly "crusts", but it does firm up. You really don't need to smooth with a paper towel, you can get it pretty smooth just with a spatula. I use a bench scraper called "chop and scrape" by Chef Mate. Found it at SuperTarget for $3.99 I think. Best thing I have ever had for smoothing!
Terrific Cake! Wonderful job! (On a personal note...I just love chocolate ....AND... Pachelbel's Canon! Talk about atmosphere!)
How did you make the flute?
I got a picture of a flute off of the internet and put it in my kopykake projector. That way I could mark my length for the flute and then took a #8 round tip and piped the body of the flute. Then I turned the kopykake projector back on to place the finger pads and all of the "hardware" on the flute in their proper places.
wow! I played the flute many moons ago, and I have to say, it is a spot on replica! Can I have a slice???
I love this design! I am saving it, and hope to make it for a niece who plays the flute, hope you don't mind!
JulieB, I don't mind at all! I am flattered that you want to make one like it. Be sure to post the picture!
Wow! This is one of the best musical themed cakes I've seen. I love how even the finest detail was taken into account (the scrollwork to mimic a music stand). Your style of decorating is where I'm hoping to get someday! I love how you seem to really capture the essence without overdoing anything!
Wow! Thanks, ckkerber! What a great compliment! You guys are all such an inspiration to me! I really was no where before I found CC!
