I had so much fun making this for my neice, obviously her favorite color is pink! I wish I could take credit for the design as well, I love it so much, but I can't. She fell in love with a picture of the original cake (white) and wanted it changed to pink. I wish I knew who made the original cake so that I could give her/him credit and to thank them for creating such a gorgeous design!

This cake, although quite time consuming, was extremely simple to make. Just stripes on one layer and rose swags on another. The time consuming part was making ALL OF THOSE ROSES! I thought I had done this already, but apparently I didn't. I just wanted to THANK all of you from the bottom of my heart for voting for this cake in the wedding cake contest! I was completely shocked when I found that I had won 5th place! WOW! I was up against such tough competition

Whoa, that's gorgeous! The draping roses are awesome. Are those just vertical lines or dod you overlap with a flat tip? I love it whichever way you accomplished it!

on

No, overlapping probably would have been much easier. Sure wish I had thought of that!!! I marked (made a slight impression) where the lines should go with a ruler and then painstakingly drew them in with a small round tip. Some of them are a bit shaky!!!

Congratulations on the beautiful cake. But, you deserve 1st place for that immaculate kitchen! Please tell us you scrambled around and cleaned it just before the photo! lol

Hehehe! We DID clean the kitchen right before the picture, BUT this was at my sister's house and her place ALWAYS looks likes this! She didn't get her neatness from ME!!!

on

Yep, hours and hours and well, you know! Glad you all like the cake! I had to show your comments to my sister - the owner of the impeccably clean kitchen.

I dont' know each one looks nice....the cake or your kitchen! lol Did you take hours doing this cake?? Just beautiful

beautiful . And your kitchen is so tidy. Notice there is no sign of a baker in the house. How do you manage that

:D Stunning. is the cake and flowers done in buttercream? If the roses are done in buttercream how did you get them to stick on the cake. You usually do that technique with royal icing and toothpicks? Beautiful!

on

kerri, what did you use for the filler around the roses? Is it more roses? It's so beautiful, but I can't see enough detail. Still a favorite of mine.

on

auntikaro - the whole cake is done in buttercream. The roses were made up ahead of time (hundereds of them!) and allowed to air dry. Then I dabbed a bit of fresh icing where I wanted each rose to go and carefully put the roses in place. They all stayed. YAY!

jadinsaunt, I really can't remember the exact tip I used, I just tried to go for a smaller tip at the top border and larger for the bottom. If I were to venture a guess, I would say that I probably used a size 5 or 8 maybe for the top and then a 12 or so for the bottom. It doesn't really matter, just use whatever seems to fit your tier size the best.

on

Kerri, this cake just keeps popping back into my life! It IS still just about the most beautiful cake I've ever seen. I have yet to attempt to make one like it but it's still an all time favorite. Wonderful job!!
