The hydrangeas are real. Ribbons and bows are fondant. Icing is buttercream.
Very elegant looking.
I just made this same cake 2 weeks ago...I used fondant and blue fondant bows. The bride was using silk flowers and a silver monogram on the top. The hydrandeas she had bought were huge and very cheap looking. It was an outdoor wedding and was being postponed until the rain stopped so I didn't get to see the final cake set up. I sure hope she left off the over-sized flowers!! I love it in the bc with the real flowers!!
Thanks ~ I ordered 3 fresh hygrangeas thinking I would use all three on top. Wow were hey ever big. I used one on top (which I still think was too big). My brain couldn't come up with a last minute plan. The other two are divided on the table. The bride requested absolutely no fondant (except ribbons & bows). I told her I would try to get it as smooth as I could but I wouldn't guarantee it to be as smooth as the fondant cake she showed me. She said she had to look up close to make sure it wasn't...
