Buttercream Cake

Buttercream Cake on Cake Central

I am trying to get better at the buttercream, but I find it more impossible to work with than fondant! This one was a source of stress....it started bulging at the seams in transit, and I had to fix it the best I could at the reception site. I was hoping all the gumpaste flowers would distract the eye. I'd love some tips on buttercream icing!

thanks for the reassurance.....at least I know the cake tasted really yummy! BY the way, here is a hint on gumpaste flowers: buy them online!! It is less expensive for the brides, and they always look nice. Pfeil and Holing is the site I go to.

I think its perfect! There is a post in the cake decorating forum that is sooooinformative about buttercream, it is a sticky at the top of the thread list....

You may have had a tough time, but you'd never know it by looking at this cake! It looks terrific! I also hate working with buttercream, and would rather do Fondant ANYTIME!I can ALWAYS get fondant smooth looking, but have a tough time getting buttercream to conform to my perfectionist standards!

This is completely gorgeous. I feel your pain over buttercream...if you like, check out the rubber duck cake in my gallery for the story of my divorce from buttercream :) You did a great job.

I think your cake looks great! All of my wedding cakes are buttercream so I have gotten very good at working with it. I can't get any brides to let me use fondant!
