Cody's Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake

Cody's Mickey Mouse Birthday Cake on Cake Central

It was my privilege to do my first Icing Smiles cake for 3 year old Cody. Bottom tier is 10" x 6" rich chocolate with chocolate frosting, the top tier is 8" x 11" French vanilla with vanilla frosting. The whole cake is covered in fondant, the top tier with a bit of wafer paper for texture. Mickey was made as a removal plaque so it could be kept as a souvenir.

LOL - no, @Superfuncakes ‍, the grandmom kept the Mickey for Cody.  That is why I made it on a "plaque", so it could easily be removed.  She did put it in the freezer to "save" it, but I was able to warn her and recue Mickey before he was ruined.

Beautiful cake!!!  I'm getting ready to make my 3 year old grand-daughter's bd cake this week.  It will be princess theme.  Love your lettering.  Could you tell me how you did the name and Happy Birthday?  Thanks.

Thank you, @Martha24 ‍!  The name Cody, I chose a type font which I liked, blew the name up to the desired size and printed it.  I then cut it out, layed it on top of my fondant and, with an Xacto knife, cut around it.  To add a slight 3D look, I rounded off the cut edges with my fingers.  The happy birthday on the cake board was cut with a Cricut Cake machine, but you can get (cookie cuter type) cutters at Walmart (sometimes in the Wilton isle), Michael's or Hobby Lobby.  Hope this makes sense!  Can't wait to see your granddaughter's cake!

Thank you for the sweet compliment, @Martha24 ‍ !  Cake decorating-sugar art is my retirement hobby and I love to share anything that I've learned along the way.

So I read all the comments first since it automatically brings me to the bottom of the page. I scrolled up with anticipation thinking there would be a sculpt of Mickey. I was shocked to see a 2D. Your skillset is amazing! That is the best Mickey! I love it! FYI there is a font called Waltograph...it's a Disney font. I also have Disney alphabet cutters cuz, well, you know,  grandchildren lol! Just putting it out there :)

Thanks, @aldonza ‍ !  I wanted something Cody could keep and thought the plaque would be a safer bet.  When I do 2D figures, I use my finger to round off the cut edges while the fondant is still soft and use my dresden tool to sort of sculpt the lines to give some dimension, then I highlight and shade with powdered colors.
