Calla Lillies And Ribbons

Calla Lillies And Ribbons on Cake Central

It looks the same as a cake i've done before. I'm just trying to perfect the cake, and try different techniques before doing my friend's wedding cake. First time using crusting BC and I hate it!! I cannot get it to smooth...

I haven't used crusting BC-but Betty Crocker/Pillsbury/DuncanHines"canned frostings". Let them set in the refrigerator.Areas can be smoothed with a hot angled spatula(dip in boiling water & quickly wipe excess water & slowly smooth the cake).Sometimes the frosting will start to "wrinkle up", that's when you stop, dip the spatula & start again. I often have to refrigerate it a few times in-between(at least 30 min).Feel free to contact me privately for examples, or check www.OCakes.com. Good luck!

I love the choice of brown. Is that the brides color? Have you tried the Viva papertowel method? It really works. I let my bc crust for about ten minutes or until it doesn't come off on my fingers but not hard. Lay it over your cake and use an angled spatula with light pressure and smooth. I believe there is a tutorial here about it.

Its actually green but i also like it as brown. I did do the viva method, but with computer paper instead of viva. The only viva i can find in canada is slightly patterned. :( I just need to work on it more.
