Stacked Books

Stacked Books on Cake Central

I made this cake for my mom's birthday. I was disappointed with the results. My fondant drooped and the cakes looked sloppy. I resigned myself to having old-looking books. I tried to rush the lettering and lustering part of the decorating, though, and made a sloppy mess! I told my mom that these were books she dropped in the bathtub. :) She loved them. Jane Eyre is chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling and chocolate fondant. Green Dolphin Street is strawberry cake with lemon cream cheese filling.

I stared at these for quite a few minutes in total awe. Then I got to your comment about disappointed in the results??? Are you kidding? I LUV this antique book look! You be sure to tell everyone it was your total intent! They don't even look like cakes. Duff would be proud of you!

I think they are great. They look like someones favorite books that are read over and over. Most people don't even see what we consider imperfections.

Until I read your description I would have never known that it isn't the way you intended!! I think they are wonderful!

I absolutely love them! "Happy little accidents" as Bob Ross would say. Your pages look great. Do you have a picture of the spines or can you tell what you did? Also I was wondering about separation supports - did you use a board and supports between them. I seen a show on Food Network with someone making books and they didn't show or tell if she put supports between the books. I was just curious. Again don't be hart on yourself - they look fantastic!
