HERE ARE SOME CAKES I MADE FOR MY NEIGHBORS. LET ME KNOW YOUR HONEST OPINION.... IM NOT HAPPY WITH THE YELLOW ONE.. CAME OUT KINDA RETARDED LOL... BUT, THEY ARE WHITE CAKE WITH VANILLA PUDDING IN THE MIDDLE!
They're all pretty. I'd say you have some mighty lucky neighbors too!! To smoothe I let my buttercream dry a little and then use a Viva paper towel and my hand to smoothe out the top. Any other places I can usually smoothe out with a mall spatula dipped in very hot water. You're sure to get some orders with this publicity campaign.
Good job, don't forget to cover all of your boards though for next time, you can see the grease from the icing on all of them but one. I recommend to use gift wrap and then contact paper, contact paper does not cut through very easily and you can then reuse the board (if you get it back).
Yes, you can use gift wrapping paper and then cover it with clear contact paper. You should be able to find contact paper at a walmart, target, or kmart, in the same area as shelving paper.
to make it easier to cover your board, get good quality coloured contact (sticky backed plastic) and cover your board like you would the kids school books...slowly and bit by bit smoothing a little at a time.
What size are they? I'm thinking of doing the same kind of thing to advertise here. I wonder why you didn't smooth the frosting more. The trick is to use crusting buttercream, let it crust and then lay a piece of parchment paper on top and smooth with your hand. That gets them very smooth. I like the one with the two colors on the right and the center back one with the sort of shell border is good.
Very pretty, lucky neighbours! Love the colours! Another smoothing trick is to use either the fondant roller (the little Wilton one, about 3 inches wide) or the fondant smoother, again Wilton, in the shape of an iron and after your icing has set, take a paper towel or waxed paper or parchment or a smooth piece of clean washed and dried cotton material and place this on top of the icing and then use the roller or fondant or your spatula to get rid of any icing marks.
thanks squirrelly! i dont know why.. i mean, i knew the trick... but i didnt do it?? i guess that comes along with being a beginner?? LOL!! thanks for all of your comments and honesty!! its greatly appreciate
