Deb's 50th Birthday Cake

This was my first attempt at doing a tiered "wedding style" cake. Everything went really well EXCEPT 3 hours before delivery there was a frosting disaster so I had to run to the store, come back and start making Italian Meringue Buttercream! I was a little upset that I didn't have any time to smooth the cake or put any borders on. So other than that I'm pretty satisfied. The topper is a wood "D" and silk flowers (there was also a gumpaste disaster and had to improvise with silk ones. )

I do lots of cakes with no borders .... it looks good. I particularly like the way the bows on the tiers are not lined up .... one on each side. gives it a fun, casual look while still looking very elegant! My 50th is coming up very soon! I'm keeping this one in mind!
