Morgan Dollar

Morgan Dollar on Cake Central

cake for my father in law who loves coin collecting. This cake was a pure headache to do, my icing kept sliding off the side of the cake, my bct wouldn't come off the paper and literally crumbled so i had to free hand the majority of the image. I learned one thing from this cake, i'll never do another one like this one again. Any hints, suggestions, critiques welcome.

Well, you can't tell that it was such a disaster from the picture, it looks good. I just did my first transfer yesterday, and I would say that it does almost definitely need a backing to it. Mine worked out pretty well, but I could tell the the backing on it is important in how solid it is. Always room for another try, but for freehanding it....I know I couldn't do that well.

I too am amazed you did this freehand, when I first saw it I wondered if you hadn't traced it using a kopycake or similar projector. Mighty steady hand to that level of detail work!

No kidding! Great job on the freehand image. I've only done 1 fbct & it worked pretty well but it was a solid picture. I don't think it will work properly on what would basically just be like an outline. Although I would have never known this cake gave you any grief unless you had said so! It looks great!

was the bct just the lines, or was it filled in with white icing? I've never done one, but maybe if it was solid it wouldn't crumble?

just lines...i'm sure that's why it crumbled...i didn't put a coating on the back of it...wish i would have...maybe then it wouldn't have fallen apart
