awsome!!!!!! go steelers... my question is if i do this how do you know what size of the gumpaste for the front of the helmet should be i'm afraid of making it to small or too big how did you know what was the righ size for the size of the helmet.. cause you need to let it dry right..
The gum paste for the large helmet was laid across a 1 1/2 gallon pitcher and reached down tho the countertop. The smaller one was laid over a can the size of a large formula can and it also reached down to the countertop. I do the mask a week in advance or longer so it will thoroughly dry.
I love this cake! My son wants a 3D hockey goalie mask cake for his birthday, and this cake gives me some inspriation. I'd love any advice if you have any more to share
I would suggest that you make sure you make the mask well in advance (at least 1 week) and that the "bars" are thick enough. The joints where the bars cross can be fragile.

outstanding job.
For the large helmet, the top half is a dome pan and the bottom is 2 - 8" layers. The small helmet is 6" layers. The face mask is gum paste.
That is so awesome---how did you get your icing and letters so perfect? I love it!
thank you so much.
Great job!
