I am in the process of learning cake decorating and decided to tackle my grandaughters 2nd birthday cake. This is the 4th cake I have decorated.

I used a buttercream icing for the flowers.....I downloaded the wrong picture...this was my 2nd cake to make after I learned how to make roses. I am going to get my grandaughter's cake on here correctly.

I love your roses!!! I gave up on mines and do not use them in my cakes' decorations. Can you give us the recipe for your buttercream?

I use 1 cup of solid shortening, 1 tsp Wilton Vanilla, 2 Tbsp water, 4 cups sifted powered sugar and 1 Tbsp of Meringue Powder. I was told it's just the classic Wilton Buttercream Icing recipe but since I'm new at this I'm not sure about all the recipes.

After applying a thin buttercream I go over it with a spatuala that I have dipped in very hot water then dryed, the heat helps smooth it out. Once it's completely dry if it still needs some smoothing out I use parchment paper on it to get it really smooth.

It is the final cake for Course I....I didn't actually mean to download this photo, I have another photo posted of a pink cake...that's the one I was trying to post and this one got in by accident...but thank you.

The Wilton class buttercream is what I always use and people rave about it. I love it too so it's what I stick with unless I want to fondant look. Then I use the crusted bettuercream II recipe in the recipe file on this site. Very pretty cake.
