Well the first thing that popped into my head was holy ........ what a beautiful, complicated, time consuming, incredible cake!!

ShirleyW Says... 8 years ago

Thank you. His method of over piping is labor intensive, but the results are awfully pretty. And I was only 25 at that time so I had a lot more stamina then.

Wow! It is incredible! How could you ever let anyone cut it after all that work?!

ShirleyW Says... 8 years ago

Thank you. Well it was a styrofoam dummy so no one cut into it.

Wow! I love the Lambeth method/technique. What tip did you use for the stringwork on the side -- 00? and was it royal icing or bc?

ShirleyW Says... 8 years ago

It is all royal icing and actually the stringwork was done with a #2 tip.

LilLivi888 Says... 8 years ago

That is so amazing that you put all the time and effort into making that cake..... especially with out fondant.

ShirleyW Says... 8 years ago

Thanks. I don't think anyone was using fondant in the U.S. in 1964

ShirleyW Says... 7 years ago

Thank you so much. :)

Sugar_Plum_Fairy Says... 7 years ago

Wow, my jaw dropped upon seeing this one! Did you have this cake cryogenically frozen to preserve it? Such a work of art should last forever - that's above and beyond....!!

ShirleyW Says... 7 years ago

It was a styrofoam dummy done with all royal icing so it didn't hold up for too long, I eventually tossed it but I hated to.
