Sugar cookies cut out with a Christmas bulb cutter and decorated with a layer of royal icing, topped with sanding sugar. I piped "threads" with royal icing on the part that fits in the socket (whatever that's called!) and let them dry, then flooded some royal icing over them and let that dry. Then I painted it over with silver luster dust. When I served them, I poked holes in the bottoms and threaded black licorice strings through the holes like a string of lights and left a pair of safety scissors on the platter for people to cut away a cookie.
