I've probably done more of these cakes than anything else; devil's food cake with chocolate almond buttercream. How can you go wrong with chocolate dipped strawberries? ;-)
Thank you all. Price, I always write directly on the cake. I think if you let the icing kind of fall on the cake as you are moving your hands (rather than holding the tip too close to the cake) it does better, if that makes sense. I always use a #3 tip.
The drippings are done from melted semi sweet chocolate chips with a tad of shortening to thin; buttercream is a variation of Wilton's; crisco, blue bonnet margarine, vanilla and almond extracts with just 2 TB cocoa powder for 2 lbs conf. sugar.
