My six year old son has watched me bake for years and tried to help me. He always makes a mess. This year for Valentine's I just put out all my stuff and let him have at it. I helped him bake the cake and then helped him mix the mmf and was banned. He worked all day long and then called me in to help with the spelling. He was very, very proud of it and demanding we eat until we were all sick!
