i made the rim of the hat out of rolled fondant ahead of time to allow it to dry in the curved shape, then later i carved the gun and 'bowl?' part of the hat out of a sponge cake then layed rolled colored fondant over the top, the handle of the gun i tinted the fondant but didnt knead the color all the way to give it the wood grain effect
