I made this for my son's first birthday. The theme was "prince" so i thought I would make a crown cake for him to wreck...little did I know the cake would be the wreck!!! I made the actual crown from gum paste...my first go round, not so bad. I attempted to make "jewels" for the crown from homemade hard candy (enter the wreck) I apparently didn't boil the candy long enough and they didn't harden so I had a great idea of sticking them in the freezer, this worked....until they melted :( Hard lesson learned! (no pun intented)
