My lifelong friend Helen, who I've known for over 16 years, married her sweetheart Ian this past Saturday. It was very meaningful for me to be the one creating their wedding cake and I wanted to make sure it was a reflection of who they are. The couple wanted a simple concept and this is the design I came up with. I chose to do a natural design while incorporating the green bamboo they requested. This was my first time covering a double barrel cake and I found it to be somewhat difficult. The kitchen was super humid that morning and the fondant kept tearing on me. Sigh. The restaurant where the reception was being held was also very humid and the fondant was sweating the entire night! I felt bad for the guy who had to cut up and portion the cake because it was so sticky but in the end, he did a great job.
