Toy Story Cake

Toy Story Cake on Cake Central

Here is another Toy Story cake I made for my kids, all fondant... the headboard was frusterating but the rest was easy to make. If I did it again, I would have made the headboard a few days before so it had time to get hard before attaching it. As it was, I had to attach it at the last minute and it didn't want to stay up. I had to cut it down from how tall it was originally and let it lean against the cake, which was not the way I wanted to do it. I also had to add chunks of fondant at it's corners to keep it together. The bedposts were fondant-covered pretzel rods, but if I had allowed myself more time for it to harden, I probably could have made the headboard completely out of fondant and I think it would have stood up by itself and would not have had to have been so "chunky". The board was covered in wood-patterned contact paper; it was the only kind I could find or I would have liked it to be darker wood, like in Andy's bedroom in the movie. Like I said though, this cake was simple to make, especially because the blanket could just drape there without having to perfectly cover the cake. Right before the cake was served I just placed the plastic toys and it was all set.
