30Th Birthday Cake

This birthday cake was for a man who played the minor leagues of the Red Foxes Marist. The only non sugar item is the ball, which is fondant covered Styrofoam ball. Everything else is cake or sugar, including the championship ring, complete with sugar ring box. This cake make me so nervous. The logo on the hat what detailed with lots of little components. I just each color out of fondant then put together like a puzzle. Making the ring was also a challenge. I made a mold for the ring by pressing the ring into gumpaste. I made 3 separate molds, the two sides and the top. Then let it dry for many days. The ring box also was a challenge, i made that out of fondant by using the box the ring came in as a mold. I let the fondant set overnight then took it off and adjusted it. I had a few breakage points, but was able to re secure it. Overall the cake was so much fun to make. I added a shot of the bat cake after carving so you can get an idea. The bat was a true size bat, measuring at least 34 inches. The handle is RC, only because i ran out of time. My first time working with RC.
