This cake was inspired by the “steampunkesque” music video “Tonight, Tonight” by The Smashing Pumpkins. It is really weird/fascinating and I suggest taking a look if interested. (Just search Google). The video is inspired by a 1902 French black and white silent film called “A Trip to the Moon”.

The blimp/submarine thing is RKT. All decorations are fondant and gum paste. Gears were painted with luster dust and the 10” cake is hand painted with gel colors. The 8” bottom tier is covered with fondant and then covered with reflective scrapbook paper (which is the only inedible decoration besides the circular frame). The base is cover with fondant and carved and painted to look like wood.

This was definitely a labor of love for me – it took forever, but I had so much fun doing it! Thanks for looking!
