From A Boy To A Girl :)

LONG .... I had so much fun making this cake! The customer was a young man who wrote a birthday message in the form of a poem for his someone special (not yet girlfriend...but he was hoping she would be after this cake). He sent me a PDF file with the design he had created - his poem to her in the cloud, with some of her favourite things around it. The poem is one which only the two of them will understand best. Also, he specifically wanted the cake to be a sapodilla/sapota flavored cake as her favourite fruit is sapota...I've never come across this flavored cake before and could not find any recipes online...so I thought up a few recipes, experimented with them and finally created a great sapota cake recipe :) I offered him a tasting because it was an unusual flavour and he loved it. I covered the cake in vanilla fondant and made all the little figures (elephants, lilies, cellphone &teddy bear) out of a 50/50 mix of gumpaste and fondant. The poem in the cloud was printed on rice paper and the "Prafulla Happy B'day" was cut out using FMM letter cutters, out of gumpaste. The colored ball border was again handrolled balls of vanilla fondant. He wrote me a mail telling me that she LOVED the cake and not just the look but also the taste!... I am so thrilled with the feedback :)
