A friend of mine asked me to make a cake for her son's 8th birthday. I love to bake but has absoutely NO training whatsoever in cake decorating. I only have watched cake shows on TV like Ace of Cakes, Challenge and Cake Boss. So when she asked me to make a Spongebob cake I was up for the challenge. So this is my first ever shaped, fondant covered cake. The cake is a 2 layer white pound cake with a whipped chocolate ganache filling, all homemade, a fluffy vanilla buttercream frosting and the yellow is MMF I made myself. The rest is either Wilton pre dyed fondant or satin ice vanilla that I dyed with the Wilton spongebob colors. The arms, nose and legs are all fondant. It came out a lot better than I had expected and it even tasted really good. I did have a hard time watching him get cut to pieces!
