A Day At The Beach
I made this cake for my cousin, who requested something for a 4th of July bb-q. Since they love the beach so much, I decided this would be a fun cake. The cake is key lime with key lime cream cheese filling. Everything on top of the cake is made out of MMF. The palm tree design came from CakesUnleashed here on CC. The tiki hut was carved in cake and wrapped in MMF. For the top of the tiki hut, I used a half of a styrafoam ball and covered it with strips of MMF, pushed a plastic piller in the bottom and it actually worked. For the fire pit, I cut a hole in the cake and used royal icing to glue the rocks together to form the pit. All the rest of the little pieces are MMF done by hand. This cake took forever, being that I've only decorated a couple of other cakes before. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. If it wasn't for CC, I don't know where I'd be!
